If yes then how much do you spend as % of your income ? which airlines do you usually book and why ? And which ones you avoid and why ?

Edit - I do book business out of pocket when I get prices like one way <$2000 ( emergency long haul travels ) and round trip < $3000. Max 2 times an year trying to keep the cost < 6% of my take home income.

Points/Miles :- I do have credit cards that have points/miles/rewards but whenever i need to fly for family or personal reasons or can fly for vacation tickets are way higher than the points/miles I have 🙄 never been able to book an international economy let alone business thru my points / miles .

I have chase United mileage plus, chase freedom unlimited , BofA travel rewards, amex blue cash & delta skymiles , capital one quicksilver, citi double cash ... not sure what I’m doing wrong in the points game ...

Never business. The price simply don't make sense until you make 1M+ a year.
I'm fine having a bit of a worse travel for 10 hours and take a quick nap on arrival in exchange of saving 10k$.

That being said, I upgrade my personal bookings once in a while with the miles I save from traveling for work.

Yes. I pay out of pocket when flying with family . Spend about 1.5--2 % of annual AGI for round trip tickets for the entire family for each trip. Maybe 2 trips a year. I never have had to travel for work.

Used BA, United,KLM, Emirates,Air France, Singapore, Qatar.

I avoid air India, air China, and Turkish. Poor reviews.

Google for reviews. There are tons of detailed review websites for how to score deals and for cabins reviews.

Don't buy without some research. Prices vary widely and can swing wildly. Unless the money is chump change to you.

  • Sometimes. Always United as I’m a 1K member and they actually treat 1Ks well despite all the bad press.

  • You never pay for travel out of pocket. That's what miles, points, and upgrades are for. I only fly business.

  • Sometimes, other times we buy first class tickets.

It depends on price and distance.
