Lc: 200

New grad here - interviewed at Walmart and got railed and so demoralized at this point

First interviewer was late

Got asked a dp question which I didn't finish

Then got asked a math problem

Then got asked how I'd solve a problem that I have no resources to and that I couldn't figure out on my own (??)

Second interview

then asked me to implatment a quick select

then asked me to implatment a priority queue

Then asked me to implatment it using trees

And then was told my solution was wrong and was told to figure it out on my own

And then it ended

Just saddened this was my first final round I've had in months because of covid :(

This is good warmup for Albertsons. That is where the real money is, you still need more practice interviews before you can try for them.

  • Should implatment better spelling. Jokes aside, that’s a real bummer. What kind of nerd asks a math question lmao. And a dp on top of that.. brutal. Pretty sure the last math class I took was 2nd semester freshman year. I know it’s not worth much, but keep on chugging. Spend a couple days crying it off or whatever you need, then go back and grind that leetcode. Wish you the best of luck.

i was once interviewing a company where I cleared a gruesome 2 hour design round but got rejected in 30 minutes in the next because I could not solve a question based on bayes theorem that I studied 8 years ago.

I responded to the rejection mail from company HR with "lol".

Reasoning is say you choose four specific CS faculty members. Then for that combination, there are 9c3 ways of choosing math faculties. In short, for every specific #4 set of CS faculties there are 9c3 ways:

      9c3 first-set + 9c3 second-set + 9c3 third-set + ...

But there 11c4 such sets, hence multiplication.

Don’t be. I’ve interviewed w pretty much all of top tier companies, but haven’t run into many of implement DS from scratch problem. I could explain how they work, but cleanly implementing 2 of them within an interview... hmmm. I doubt my chances. The point is... you will do well in some of the interviews and bomb some (my performance at Uber still haunts me) so don’t worry too much about it and keep interviewing

Name a tech company. I've failed their interview. You are here for the long run, fail more, learn more, you will be OK. A lot of us here know what it feels like to get rejected. Don't let it reflect on how you see yourself.

I just know that these interview don't at all reflect my work ethic and my ability as an engineer, it's so frustrating especially when people already speak low of me. I know it's my own problem, and I just gotta keep trying. Just a little disheartening
