Hello, I’m a french student soon graduated with a Msc of Engineer in Cybersecurity I made a post about moving to the USA, but due to various reasons i probably won’t be able to stay after an internship (if i manage to get one). considering this, should i make a PhD or another MsC (thinking about Data Science / Machine Learning) in France Or should i start working (maybe for one of the company i aim in SF?) in France, UK, Canada or another EU country and in 3 years or so, move to USA (maybe by transfer with L1 visa) ? Considering on lot of job offers i saw « PhD » mentionned. I am really struggling for this decision and i would like advice from people already working in theses kinds of companies. thanks
Take a job with Thales, do an internal move to the US. Get your green card sponsored and then go wherever you want.
Do you think this is the best way ? Because I think doing an internal move to US can be really hard, some others company could made it easier ?
No offence, Thales has the shittiest engineering I have ever seen. Don't waste your time there. Go to the US for real engineering experience.
Think twice about leaving your country and your culture. I moved to the US after les grandes ecoles at your age, largely because I was uninformed about the US. The dream is one thing and reality is another. I do regret my move at this point in time and I wish I could go back home. I don’t belong in this culture. That ‘s my experience. I would say that before making such a move get all the information you need about the US. And then decide for yourself. Bonne chance!
Exactly! Avoid this!
I did not thinked the chick would be this hard. In which city do you live in? Can’t you go back home ? Personally when I went to SF i liked the fact it was a bit European. Plus the salary and the dream of working in huge IT companies. Thanks a lot for your advice, I hope you will find a way to get back to the country you love. Bonne chance!
Thanks for your answer. I got an answer from google few minutes ago, they wanted detailed grades and told me the date of the internship, sadly the « winter internship » always start in January. I will try for other internship but at least it got me enthusiastic, they opened my resume. Yes I think I will try the internship and maybe go back to think about staying longer into USA. Thanks for all the help
Currently finishing my MSc in Engineering in France in a no-name Engineering school (part of CCP). Plenty of US companies have offices in Europe and willing to transfer you via L1 visa after some time in their office. Had no problem getting interviews at FB, AWS, Google, Uber, Microsoft, Bloomberg, Palantir and many others for internship and full-time positions. Some companies sponsor H1B also (Msft for example) and as you will have a MSc you fall under H1B MSc quota. It’s not easy but feasible.
Since you're French you can help me. You managed to find 6 months internship? I need to make a "fin d'étude" Internship (6 months) and lot of US company does not have this. The internship you had was in Europe?
Yes. I know that Amazon, Google, Uber, Bloomberg, etc... have 6 months internship (not in all European countries). For Amazon you can have 6 months everywhere in Europe, Google in Zurich and Paris.

Don't move to the US if you could work in France, UK, Ireland, Germany, or Czech Republic. There's plenty of work in all the top companies going on in those countries. I wouldn't advise anyone to move to North America if it's only for your career, especially if you're going to be constrained by work permits. If you have to think so hard about PhD, don't take that route yet and see what you get with your current qualifications.
Thanks a lot for your answer, it give me a better view of what could be my career. One of the main reason of my will to move is that I love to travel and loved SF. And also the salary gap (even if life cost is higher) is HUGE. Even by doing well in France for example I won’t ever be able to make to amount like 120k
Vacation experience is always better than living and working there. Try that internship. 120k is poor if it's total family income.
