Received an offer for a sales role at GCP for L6 - 325K TC. 250K OTE and 75K stock per annum. Looks completely ridiculous to me and more surprisingly recruiter seems to be in no mood to negotiate. I am super happy at AWS and no reason to move, unless for a sizeable bump in comp. I am an L6 at AWS With TC 330.

Thoughts?

  • If super happy then why try to fix things not broken? Btw I m ex-Google and they can stretch to 350 for L6 that’s all without competing offers

    Super happy at AWS ~= wouldn’t take an offer <50% pay raise. Plus you are going from #1 to #3.5. Don’t move unless pay is superb and scope is substantially bigger. That being said, L6 sales at 325, AWS is paying you really well. You know this is higher than many L6 SDE and even SDM for those who have been there for a few years.

    Your upside at G would probably be higher and refreshers will be higher. G sales does not cap until 10X so if you have a good year you could retire. I am not sure what amazon refreshers are but G at L6 is pretty good. Oracle sales teams that have transferred over have figured out how to pay GCP sales. As with anything your territory will determine success and quotas are rising fast but still probably a year or two of good greenfield attainment.

    Be careful and ask questions about your territory. There are entire patches of greenfield territory and you will starve as a sales rep. Stay with AWS or Azure if you have good customers and we'll developed relationships. Don't be fouled by the glitter of GCP....trust me.

    GCP pays less than AWS in general - usually the accelerater is larger on over performance vs quota. The base/variable split is also usually 40/60 rather than 60/40 which is less desirable.

    Look for the very real opportunity of reaching L7 as an enterprise AM at AWS instead
