Title says it all. Every day feels like a groundhog day. No matter what I try to do, separation between work and home is quite poor, lol. Also tired of constantly talking through the screen, it is actually harder to communicate and explain technical concepts/ideas, I miss having in-person discussions in front of a blackboard. I started simulating commute in the mornings by driving 15min to get coffee. Also I dress up formally sometimes for work. That helps me with being in the mood. It has its perks, not arguing about that. I feel ideal for me in the future would be an ability to wfh when needed/tired of commute. Remembering life before covid, seems like I would probably do wfh 1-2 days a week.
Get out of the house in the evenings. Go for a run or bike ride. Or go to the gym. Or meet someone for dinner. Make it a point to get outside the house everyday, preferably to different spots/locations. That should help with mental state
That's what I'm trying to do. A bit scared of gyms yet, but going to different hikes every time.
Ok hope you’re vaccinated already
It can be hard. I’m loving it, but I understand your situation
I voted that you are crazy, but that’s just my perception of wfh. If you feel you’re more productive at work - then you should have the option of going in to some formal environment, but if others feel they are more productive in a fully remote setting - they should have it as option as well.
Are you vaccinated? Does your office allow you to go to work? If so perhaps try going in twice or thrice a week.
Yep, got my second dose. Will need to move to Bay Area though, as I'm in SoCal.
Are you in one of coastal areas of SoCal? If that, just go to the beach, surf or swim. Ocean is the best stress relieve I’ve moved to SoCal from Bay Area, rented a larger house with a private office. Now I love wfh. But maybe it’s because I have a family
Why do you feel like there is no seperation between work and home. Turn off your computer and set your phone to do not disturb based on a schedule. Set slack or whatever to do not disturb on a schedule.
Because my brain associates part of my home with work now. Even when I'm not working, entering or even just passing by my office room reminds me of work. Moving furniture around helped a little bit, lol, but there are not that many variants, lol.
Have a separate room or home office just for work then.
It’s miserable and don’t let the asocial drones of blind tell you otherwise
Wfh is what you make of it. It can be so much more social. Climbing, hikes, parties in the afternoon / evening and work when it makes sense for the activities you want to do. My friend group is so much more diverse since wfh started
Spending one’s career from their living room through a computer screen is not something many of us had any interest in. I think the sentiment that WFH has been horrific, along with many aspects of this pandemic, is more widely shared than the comments we see on this app would lead us to believe. Even so it can be somewhat disturbing to read. Hopefully the experience of this pandemic will push our society towards a more extroverted future with a greater emphasis on in person interactions once this horrible public health emergency is over.
Is it better after a 1hr commute, after paying for that $2.5m home? It’s not. We could have worked the extra hour and got even more done and still saved an hour of my time. Take the time and money you save and invest in a proper work from home space and it’s no different from being in the office. As a team you should get together frequently no doubt but all the time everyday? It’s excessive and expensive on us personally. It’s extremely dependent on tasks and team. I would hate to see us all forced back in
Much of the western world is already (pre-COVID) pretty extravert-oriented, much to the frustration of many introverts. I think what we're all looking for is, once we're not all isolating at home under a pandemic, that we can each work the way we want to work while respecting that not everyone else wants to work the same way.
I like a hybrid. Work from home and working at the clients’ facilities.
Most places allowed hybrid after u can work without much help. This thread is about WFH always.
Go for a run outside everyday
Wfh is great. If everyday feels like groundhog day, either you are the problem or your job is. Get a new job.
Exactly!
Maybe. Been thinking about that, as I am currently working for a startup with a relentless pace. But then imagined ramping up remotely again...
