Curious as to how Rippling’s levels translate to G/FB. I’ve read that L6 @ Rippling == L4 at G/FB, but my recruiter is claiming it’s equivalent to L5. It led to some awkwardness when meeting with the hiring manager as he said L6 is mid-level, one below senior. Is there a such thing as L4 at rippling, which would imply that L6 is two levels above entry level? What level do new grads join as?

    Yeah, it's weird, I agree.

I spoke with Rippling last month and was confused too.

First, my recruiter told me L4 is entry/new grad.
Then he said that L7 is senior.
Lol then he said that L6 is like a software engineer II role.

Lol so I'm confused about how they do things there. 3 Levels (4, 5 and 6) seem to represent what are only 2 positions at most companies (entry/new grad and eng II)

From what I’ve seen, L4 doesn’t actually exist, so new grads come in as L5. When my recruiter and the hiring manager are saying two conflicting things and can’t seem to come to a consensus, I’m turned off by the prospect of working there altogether.

  • How much are they offering you? That should answer your question.

They said 385 is their absolute max, leading me to believe L6 == E4. Their hiring manager also indicated this was the case, and I would trust them before a recruiter whose job is to get me to join at all costs.

    • Be careful with that valuation, a lot of tech stocks like these lost more than half of their valuation since end of last year.

  • L4 is for interns, it is not a full time level. L6 is SDE2. Your recruiter isn’t completely wrong, but not right either, as levels across companies aren’t exactly equal. L6 is a very wide level but still much closer to E4 than to E5.
