Anyone interviewed with Lockheed or Northrop? I feel like the bar is A LOT lower than traditional tech companies. Perhaps because of lack of competition from H1B? since most positions require citizenship...

  • Do you really want to contribute to maiming and killing people for a living?

    • That's some silly logic. Microsoft provides software to defense contractors that are technically also used for killing people, does that mean you're contributing to killing people too?

    • There is a clear line between writing general purpose software that could be augmented and used to harm others, and writing software that’s sole purpose is to harm others. So, no, the logic is not silly at all.

  • When I "interviewed" with defense company there was no technical side. Thy looked at my resume, asked if I had criminal background and gave me offer same day. Most certainly a lower bar.

  • Yes the bar for talent is way lower. They mostly just need staffers so they can bill hourly for contracts. That said it can pay very well if you have the right clearance and are intelligent, but definitely not anywhere near as much as a high performer at a large tech company.

  • the competition for defense jobs is a lot lower because of the security clearance eligibility bar. outside of the salary (and any ethical concerns) the tech these companies delve in a really interesting.
