I'm curious to know what people on here think about the ridesharing industry and the way it's shifted to basically becoming a platform for regular people to run a taxi business with the Uber and Lyft apps

It'll be around until cities either ban it or automated cars are common, whichever happens first

Banning progress doesn't work in the long term. Automated cars are complimentary, not a replacement

I would expect the major auto manufacturers to vertically integrate putting pressure on uber and lyft as self driving cars proliferate. Dynamics will change for current ride sharing companies as fleet maintenance becomes a point of differentiation and profitability driver.
