Google Engineering Residency Return Offers?

Google is currently in a hiring freeze and has laid off some of their contract workers. What do you think will happen to people who do the Google Engineering Residency program remote this year? Do you think they will be in a similar situation since they are also fixed term employees? #layoff #google #engineeringresident

Sorry people are trying to make things better for underrepresented groups. Don't try to turn it into a fight.
I'm also from the EngRes program and want to say how awful @allowlist's post is. It's a great program where you get to try out multiple teams at Google, and the idea that being African American automatically gets you hired is racist and insane. For anyone that read that and felt they didn't deserve their spot because of the color of their skin, know that you DO deserve it and people around you don’t think that you got your job because of your race. There are African American (or just African) people in my group and I would be sick to find out they read @allowlist’s post.
@allowlist also doesn’t understand that headcount works differently for regular teams and EngRes. This part wasn't right either.
Everything this post said is wrong about the program.
The layoffs that made headlines a few weeks ago only applied to an external staffing agency that Google has a contract with. Residency programs are considered FTE offers even though it's technically a "contract position." I haven't heard FTE offers from Google getting rescinded yet.
