I heard about layoffs in Cloud Support recently in another thread. Is this true? I am sorry if it is.
I was a pretty senior individual at Oracle since Sun times. The day I heard about TK moving to GCP I knew this day was coming.
His job is about maintaining margins and running support out of India is also an easy play applied at Oracle. He hardly does any tech, not that he has to, but that’s what you get when you hire a Oracle leadership.
I have at least 7-8 people on my network who were offered to bootstrap a GCP support business out of Gurgaon, 6 months ago. Right when I heard that I knew this was coming… it’s right out of the playbook and its been a plan all along.
Sorry and best of luck. So sad to see Google leaving its helm as a star employer.
To my Meta folks crying abt fallen stock prices and jumping ship to Google, we don’t run any engineering out of China/India and that’s a positive. DM for referral although we don’t have much support orgs.

But yeah Hashicorp is hiring lots of support and solutions engineering role. They pay may not be comparable to GCP, but you get to work fully remote forever which means you can move to places with LCOL.
As market corrects you will see that shift again across companies.
But fact remains that these are easy knobs to turn in the interest of maximizing shareholder value.
In most cases, it was just overpaying for the same quality of employees, just relocated from India to the US.
