L7 Sr SDM offer from Amazon, which team should I choose?
I’ve passed L7 interviews at Amazon. I am now going through the team selection process. The team choices shared by recruiter are Fire TV, Alexa Mobile, Alexa Smart Home Platform and Freetime. Would love to hear feedback about these orgs wrt culture and growth opportunities. The final offer will be rolled out after I choose the team. Current TC: 318k + 400k worth of illiquid startup options 19 yoe
Free time is a bit smallish in visibility. Don’t know about team culture. Alexa Mobile - stay away. They have a lot of legacy dependencies, and are often bombarded with VP+ top-Down requests ; Alexa smart home is a decent org. The Leadership is decent, and people quality is decent as well. Highly visible org. But may not be a good org to start at amazon as it may be a bit too intense. Fire TV - don’t know , but I haven’t heard great things.
Talk to your leadership team and meet up with folks in each of these teams. You will be working with them, that should be the better way to decide.
After I shortlist a few positions, the recruiter will set up info call with the respective hiring managers.
In general all these orgs are not great. As people said above FreeTime is small org and you may lack scope to grow further (there is already a good number of L7s). Don’t know about Alexa orgs, but in general all are chaotic, and will be difficult for newbie. FireTV might be a good place, though it is a mature product with good visibility. You may have to work with other orgs that also has presence on it. Be it Prime video, music, freetime, etc. It may require sometimes travel to Sunnyvale, since lab126 is there.
The recruiter mentioned if none of the positions in the first shortlist work out, she will help explore teams in other orgs. Which teams would you recommend I ask her to look for positions in?
Difficult to say. Try Amazon Go, AWS. Maybe some other people will recommend something g good.
