Like seriously none of us aren't gonna be finding a median from a data stream every day on the job or ever. LC isn't even real programming.

Inb4 people saying I bombed an interview. No.

LC type problems appear in the real world all the time. It's just that if you don't know algos well, you can't spot them.

@Microsoft dealing with file systems and hierarchy does present some common tree problems. Binary trees or BSTs on the other handโ€ฆ.

YMMV depending on what team you are on and what features you build out. No FE engineer is going to need it. Most Fullstacks will not. And even some BE engineers don't use it.

LC is a better filter than what companies used before. Lower tier companies will auto reject you if you've never used some very obscure language or framework before, even if you say you're willing to learn. I've noticed those companies hire with even more favoritism and incompetent people than companies that use LC.

You arenโ€™t going to be answering behavioural questions every day either or designing the whole of Uber from scratch - itโ€™s still a good tool to evaluate a candidate though.

No it is not. At first I also thought same. But slowly as I am solving problems I do realized it is the only natural best way to get good at programming. Problem solving. You learn to solve small problems, which trains you to solve bigger problems. Like you start running a mile first to train for a marathon, you life 10 pounds to start weightlifting. LC is going here to stay in programming world forever period.

Practicing Leetcode to get good at programming is like drawing circles to get better at basketball.

Actually I see more companies start using practical interviews instead. It will probably stay with FAANG companies for awhile as they have all drank the koolaid, but practical interviews are getting more popular.

Also if you want to see an interviewer breakdown a big problem into a smaller problem, there are better ways to go about it
