How’s the work life balance for AWS Frontend Engineer? Also, the Outpost team im interviewing for requires on call for one week a month. How does on call work for Frontend? #Amazon#aws#frontend#engineering#software#swe
Not sure about that SDM, but my team has L4, L5 and L6 FEEs and SDEs and everyone L5 and above is part of the rotation. The operational burden is shared equally by everyone. This means managing the frontend app (obviously) and also the backend stack - primarily a middleware service that's not too complex, and a bunch of jobs for parsing and transforming metrics data).
Classic problem. I am an SDM and have FEEs in my team, have so far kept them out of on call and expect to do so. If it is front end related issue, I have it as a daytime request to them. Pisses the rest of the SDEs off that they aren’t part of the oncall, but I guess this is my way of solving.
Good to know, and thanks for letting me know your process. I think this is an area of confusion may front end devs have and this will probably clear things up for a lot of people.
I mean that’s understandable though because the scope and collaborative effort of their work is incredibly time consuming at most companies including mine.
