I have seen many data points that internal promos lead to lower total compensation than external hires. My theory is that refreshers you got is much less than the initial grant you will get from a higher level. Most people choose to jump around when got promoted. it seems to me that you will be paid below the market rate everytime you got promoted.
i was wondering what happens at an call cash companies, e.g., netflix or other financial companies. do they adjust compensation more quickly? in other words, internal promos and external hires have similar compensation for the same level.
