I got laid off from vmware in January. I realized that was going to happen based on reading tea leaves. I thought I was prepared. I had couple of internal positions I was working towards and also worked on getting interviews at FB/Google/AMZ/Twitter/SF etc. but all I am seeing are rejections. And I am completely in despair. I am not technical, and I have lost hope that I’ll ever find a good job. I also worry that being older than average is working to my disadvantage- how does one pulls oneself out of the funk and get the confidence to do well again? No trolls please. Looking for genuine feedback from folks in similar boat please. Added - TPM/PM with 10+ years experience
Yeah maybe someone here can give you internal referrals if you are a match
True. But when you build your identity around graduating from top schools, working in top companies etc it can be frightening.
The guy is asking for advice on a pick me up and you try to do it by kicking him down. Don't be a dick
"LOL. No MS." from someone who doesn't have a job? Wow.
Appear upbeat during interviews and walk in with swag. Prepare by thinking of your accomplishments and expanding on them. Know the culture of the company you are interviewing with and how your strengths compkement theirs
If you aren't failing, you aren't working hard enough. I see that you are in the right track. Failure is a part of the journey you are walking. Just ensure it doesn't divert you from your goal. Don't be let down by it, just keep pushing yourself. You will get what you want. Good luck!
I can’t believe a PM with multiple years of experience can have trouble finding a job. Apple Microsoft tried them?
Not Product Mgr, program manager. I don’t think MS hires program managers. I have not tried Apple. That’s my next try.
Try Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. They are doing great stuffs and need people having a background around the work that VMware does.
Thank you all!
I’m also an Alexa TPM on the dev list looking for a gig, definitely not a place you want to be. I’ve recently had a phone screen with AAPL but didn’t seem to be a right fit. Just got to keep trucking and finding that path to green.
@NAx182, try amazon. They are taking everyone
Thanks bro. Tried Amazon, I thought interviews went really well, but they rejected. I am digging myself out slowly, so today feel fine. Focusing on smaller companies or tier 2 companies. But it’s a long process for a non tech role.
Process is slow. Good luck. Do you know what is the compensation range for Sr Manager at VMWARE
What role and experience? More details would help
