Hi all, I hope you are doing well. I am a software eng with 5YOE at Chase. Back in September a company wide email went round addressing people's fears of a recession in 2020. A month later and there have been several layoffs in my department, I'm worried it's related to this and I don't want to be caught in the crosshairs due to office politics. I would really appreciate any referrals at other companies actively hiring right now. I know Java, JavaScript, SQL, Kafka and REST work well. Also open to language agnostic settings too. Thanks a million everyone

So it begins!
Oh yes it begins haha
I’m doing pretty well
If a recession and layoffs across the board really are coming, changing jobs now could be a bad idea. With 5 YOE at chase you have some seniority. You’ve also passed a couple rounds of layoffs. Jumping ship means you’ll have the least seniority when they start their layoffs. So more likely to be laid off at the new company. Of course that can all just be bullshit and there is no recession/layoffs coming.
Haha, that's how a regular company behaves but after witnessing 5 years of seeing my hardworking friends get laid off without a clear explanation, I am second guessing my career here long term.

Just curious, how’s Twilio in terms of culture and TC? Seems like a good company.
