Last week I spoke to a HR rep at Sprint. He ensured me that the jobs in OP are safe. The bulk of layoffs will come from the T-Mobile side as their salaries are 30-40% higher than Sprint employees. The brand may be T-Mobile, but the corporate culture and compensation will be strongly influenced by Sprint. I believe the new CEO had said the same thing at one of the roadshows: OP is here to stay.
You really think Sprint's talent is better than TMobile's from the performance of these two companies over the past decade? Also do you think Sprint's talent wants to move to Bellevue?
Financially yes. Sprint has over $8B cash mostly due to operational cheap. Can you imagine T-Mobile employees having to take out their own trash and bring their own toilet papers to work?
Sprint is coming with almost as much debt as market cap. You’re clearly not reading the financial statements your company is putting out. Those frugal strategies that you’re proud of are a sign that the employees that remain don’t have any other options.
The frugality is real, cool. 🙂
For the sake of my investment in TMUS and the company's future in general, I hope to God Sprint employees are the primary layoff targets. Sprint has been a sinking ship for years while T-Mobile has been strengthening. I prefer the crew of the healthy ship even if their salaries are 30-40% higher. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish
When Sprint took over Nextel, layoffs and attrition happened on the Nextel side. Sprint cut their own pension program as well as Nextel’s employees stock option. Keep in mind SoftBank will be running the show. There is no way Son is willing to pay 30-40% higher salaries across the board. The purpose of a merger is to cut cost, not raise it.
Damn. Time to leave TMobile then. Sprint sucks
SoftBank is not the majority owner of NewCo, DT is. Sorry to say, the Sprint teams have their days numbered.
SoftBank is planning to add positions in the new company. How else is Son able to offer Sprint and its rich spectrum holdings at cut rate? So he could get a discount at the combined company.
Sounds like you spend more time speculating than working. Your statement is based on nothing but hopes, unless of course you’re an executive close to the deal makers...
Sadly the employees in OP, Kansas don’t have much options outside of Sprint, Hallmark Cards, and H&R Block. Thus, allowing T-Mobile to tap into the cheap labor force. Cheaper than most h1b candidates these days.
I agree with the option sentiment, but what's the _quality_ of workers in OP, KS? Sprint hasn't exactly been doing very well on anything for a while now
Sprint had been positive EBITA for a while now. The profit went straight to SoftBank bottom line. That’s what they plan on doing with T-Mobile.
We had an Opps Specialist flown out to a store set up and laid off two hours after their plane landed. They aren’t going to let you know until they’re ready to hand you that pink slip.
