It cover a a clear blind sport in our networking strategy (Edge) and had clear opportunity with our hardware partners who can OEM the software version. We have enough engineering talent in NSBU. Cisco overpays for buggy M&A (Flip, Linksys, whiptail) and comes up short on bidding for the real products (NSX...)

I am pretty sure Cisco would have weighed b/w Viptela and Velo especially when they already invested in Velo

How is VMware NSX doing financially and how is it evolving? I heard that VMware struggled to sell it as SDN solution but started selling it as security configuration solution for micro segmentation etc. I may be wrong. Want to hear from some VMware employees

NSX is plugged in everywhere on Prem, cloud and container and recently service mesh if you are not working for NSX you will be left out as a legacy like mainframe

BTW, segmentation and security are the first things that come to mind with NSX, but automation is, IMO, the real benefit. Recreating schema manually had been the most time consuming process in moving between clouds.

I work for VMware. NSX is HOT.. I'm still glad we diversified the portfolio to cross platform management and automation, but networking was the missing "glue." NSX makes things easy that used to be just "feasible." The edge was a weak point. I came to VMware from Cisco four years ago. I still view Cisco as a hardware company in an increasingly software world.
