I had several questions about Snap as a company on deciding whether to join it or not.

- What is engineering culture like
- WLB ( I understand it’s team specific but any pointers on how to make good decision on this)
- Feasibility on moving the teams let’s say after a year or so
- Would location be factor to get good team ? I am currently in NYC thinking about Seattle or LA it required
- what’s tech stack for backend engineering
- Benefits you like (everything around holidays etc.)

Current TC: E4 250k (stock crash) and L4 Snap 390k TC #snap

    Some missed / untrue points.

    - wlb isn’t 20-30 hours it most likely 45-50. On call can be hectic depending on the team and/or product.

    - there’s now pip. Bottom 10% are out. Most of us are leaving because of stock drop anyways.

    - tech stack mostly leverages gcp followed by aws.

    - PLs: go, Java, Python, cpp

    - internal tooling isn’t great but whatever is in place does the job. Quality is alright, its just not extensive.

    - most of the senior ICs were promoted to managers when the stock was picking up between 2018-2020. Most of whom aren’t good managers. So you’ve been warned

This is a one-time grant to bring anyone that is under their target equity back in line - additionally, any bonuses that are 150% get an rsu grant of 1/2 of that (which, depending on the level could be pretty decent).

WLB for me is all over the place and largely depends on the projects I undertake - fortunately, it's been pretty solid as of late. However, I did take on too much earlier in the quarter and get destroyed - I'll be throttling off come the summer so I can really enjoy it. Infra side of things.

Engineering culture will vary on who you talk to. In general from what I see everyone is very smart and pretty laid back. Also a lot of autonomy in engineering

Wlb depends on the team. Just request to talk to engineers on the team when you are team matching. I work 20 to 30 hours a week

Most teams are remote friendly so it shouldn’t affect you. I’m the only person in my state on my team

    Backend is Java mainly

    Benefits:
    Fully covered medical dental vision
Unilimited pto (make sure to use 30 - 40)
60-80 dollars a week on a debit card for you to buy food
    Phone and internet covered
    Gym reimbursement
    A bunch more as well

Backend in which regard? Services, infrastructure? You'll see galangal, c++ and Java as the top three

Both clouds, with home brew bringing it all together - with the idea that infra will be fully managed and teams can worry only what is important to them (currently, they need to be well versed in the world of kubernetes). Teams are typically free to choose whatever language they want, however, there's been a push to standardize (you'll see tooling around Java and golang).
