Hi, My background is in Corporate Finance (FP&A, Reporting, and Treasury) with small start-ups. I would love to work for a large tech company in their Finance department but noticed that most of them require basic knowledge on using either SQL or Python. I would like to learn these skills and am aware of several online courses. However, I don’t want to download anything on my laptop because I don’t have database to query. So are there any cloud based platforms where I can not just learn but also use their hyphothetical database? Thank You! TC $250k YOE 10
You can practice both on leetcode
Thanks. I will look into that.
SQL + Tableau + strong excel skills are all you need. Python can be good for scripting / automating tasks but I don't think you would have much opportunity to use it in fp&a
SQL is easily learnable through YouTube or things like the Khan Academy (free). Most ops or finance, etc folks in big tech are only using SQL for routine queries and are preloading them after their first couple of times (primarily used to draw data to tell a story). Python will be a bit harder to learn, although that depends on what kind of scripts you’re looking to write and to what depth you’re looking to use it.
Thanks. Not just learning but I want to be able to practice. Does Khan Academy allows users to practice? I don’t mind paying.
