Hello Blind people, been a silent member here. I'm an engineer but been in a non-tech role/hiring for long due to various reasons - visa stuff, gap in employment for personal reasons.

I'm not in a rush but want to be able to understand what system design is. At the very least it will help me in my current role, but also hoping to transition to a tech role in the next few years. How can I go about learning this? I got books commonly recommended here but frankly don't find time to study. Is it possible to reverse engineer this learning process? Go through designs and learn the ropes? Is it even possible?

I can Leetcode easy level comfortably and spending time there coz my role used to involve basic candidate screening, but find it hard to study sys design. Help a gal here! Thanks

    I recommend two things

    1) sys design crash course - excellent for beginners

    https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTCrU9sGyburBw9wNOHebv9SjlE4Elv5a

    2) sys design primer (also comes with exercises)

Most of the time ppl refer to the primer since it’s like a quick way to remind yourself of concepts, but if you really want to learn the concepts and such, I found that series very helpful

Also I should add that sys design becomes more relevant when you have at least two years of experience working as a SWE

If you transition into tech as a swe 1, you likely won’t need this skill set
