Isn’t it probably smart to jump ship after your RSUs have vested? For a instance my TC for next 3 yrs (assuming no promotion) would be 286k/261k/261k but after that drops to 211k. I’m not in the ya area so I don’t have a bunch of big players to deal with but I think it makes the most financial sense to go find a new place offering RSU and repeat no?
Yes, it does. Also, in many cases the promo shares come only after the initial grant, and in my case even after the promo I will have a cliff.
How is your your salary after three years is going to drop I don't quite follow what you mean?
People call it “the cliff” and yes - when you hit it you have to decide either: A.) i love this company, and I’m fine making less and staying here B.) I’m not taking this pay cut, and will leave and go somewhere else that will pay me more A lot of people choose A and that’s ok - it’s up to you to decide what’s most important
Refresher is when you get additional stock grants (options or RSUs) each year.
I like to think of this as the economic penalty for not keeping sharp. If you struggle to command your original wage somewhere else, you aren’t as valuable as you once were. So, your company will keep you, but you’ll also get a pay cut.
How many YoE do you have? Didn’t know BMW pays that much. Usually companies will give stock refreshers so your TC will stay stable at a set amount
About 10 yoe. BMW definitely doesn’t pay that lol. I’m leaving for a different company in a few months
