Has anyone ask for a leave of absence? How was it? how much time is normal? could I ask for 9 months or is that too long? do you have to have a serious reason like medical/family reasons? I was thinking of taking a leave of absence to attend a boot camp and travel a bit. what are your thoughts on this?

    Seems like what you want is a hiatus from work for some professional development and an extended vacation. I'd bet that's between you, your manager and HRs policies.

    FMLA leaves requires a health professionals recommendation and filings with the Department of Labor. Its quite structured and time periods limited.

    I've never asked for loa but I've approved 6 month loa for rock stars. No reason required.

  • I've taken an LOA before for 3 months and my firm was totally fine with it being extended up to a year. I just wanted some time to travel and pursue some personal hobbies and HR was totally supportive. I encourage you to go for it!

    depends on your manager and your type of role. I have heard of people taking 6 months no problem
