Likely will take offer from AWS and looking to start ~ May 3rd or so. I’ve heard that once you notify IBM, you lose access immediately to IBM related network and are basically pushed out the door the day of notification and can’t even fulfill your “two week notice” due to non compete, etc. If this is the case, I need to plan accordingly. Anyone have this experience leaving IBM or a similar or to join AWS? Any thoughts/guidance on this would be greatly appreciated!
I left ibm for Amazon and I absolutely hate it. Good luck as experiences vary by team.
What do you do at AWS if you don’t mind me asking?
SDE
Good luck. Hope your pip story is better
You’ll make more money at AWS but will have a big toll on WLB and mental health. Fire drill 8-8.
Prepare for PIP heaven when quota isn't met
Lmao guys can someone help with the question I asked? 😂 preferably former IBMers instead of the PIP horror stories
Remember, once an IBMer....always an IBMer. I still miss w3 and Verse. Say hi before you leave.
Just don’t tell IBM where you are going…
I was at SDE IBM, and then Joined AWS SDE. My IBM manager asked if i would be joining direct competitor product, since this was not the case i could serve all of 2 weeks notice. Looking back, I regret decision of joining Aws. Just after 6 months of joining AWS, I was put in focus. Somehow i survived it after working 12-13 hours everyday for next 3 months. All the melodrama from my manager has given me anxiety issues.
I’d be joining on the sales side but wishing you all the best 🙏 glad you are surviving
SA in sales here, it can be fire dry 🔥 for sales too. AMs have quotas to meet. Good luck anyway, I hope everything goes well to you.
I'm not entirely sure what your concerns are.. is it cus you're losing access? I put in my two weeks and my last day is tomorrow. haven't lost access.
Thx for the insight. I’ve heard in some cases, you don’t get paid out on those last two weeks and are let go immediately if going to direct competitor.
I didn't clarify which company. they do ask if it's another org or a competitor. I'm going into AWS as a SDE though
Avoid Amazon / AWS..... a quick Blind search will give plenty of reasons. Leaving IBM, thats fine... but Amazon / AWS is an awful choice. Of course, I am sure that it is a lesson which must be learnt personally but there are many many many better tech companies out there without all the baggage which a despotic oppressive management culture brings.
Agreed. if you survive 3-4 years to see majority of your RSUs then the move was worth it. I’d work for Google, Microsoft, etc over Amazon any day for solid pay and WLb. I went to Oracle out of college instead of Amazon because of their culture and don’t regret it.
