I’m considering moving jobs with less than 1y at Uber. There’s a few considerations - 1. New manager is incompetent (recognized by several people on the team) 2. Also don’t really get along with manager 3. Team is redundant with other HQ teams and I feel is being sidelined to back office 4. Overworked as what was once a 12 person team shrank to 4 5. Heard rumors of layoffs in org coming in 1-2 months 6. I just received H1B notice but I don’t think the paperwork is formally complete yet. As such I am inclined to jump ship but am not sure how to explain to recruiter. It would probably be an external move given <1 year at the company. Should I move, and if so how should I frame it?
Number of years is not important in bay area, you good then company will hire. Can cone with any number of excuses for switching before 1 yr completes
What excuses would you use in this situation?
Leave it vague like looking for different opportunities and your position is matching more closely to my personality/interest...something like that. Don't criticize current team or manager
H1B paperwork not complete. How will you switch then ?
You received notice but not h1b ? I think you can still jump but better to wait for h1b and then transfer. Ask lawyer if u want to jump before.
Golden rule is to wait for 2 paychecks post H1B start date before jumping.
Switch team. Why do you want to do interviewing?
Stay there until H1b paperwork is finished. Ppl easily go depressed when they are not lucky in the H1b lottery.
In a supply and demand driven market “<1 year” is not important. Frame your reasons for leaving the job as “personal issues” and showcase how your skills are better suited in the new environment. Be confident.
Huh? All markets are supply and demand driven...
