Moving back to India, I’m on the H1b work visa, currently in the 60 day grace period after job termination.

I don’t have any financial assets in the US.
Apart from money transfer any important checklist items to follow while leaving the US.

Do we have to forfeit the drivers license or SSN, close bank/credit card accounts or something else?

If you do not have direct deposit setup or a minimum balance, you might be charged a fee by the bank. If you leave with $0 balance it’ll overdraft and hurt your credit.

Identify all accounts you have in US and close them including membership at local library. Freeze ssn at all 3 credit reporting agencies to avoid someone fraudulently getting credit cards in your name. Check with IRS on what to do before leaving. You may have to file taxes (estimated).

Thanks for your reply. I was planning to use a US tax firm to file taxes online next year in April 21 for 2020 earnings. Do we need to file it before leaving the US?
