About 2yrs ago I was given the pink slip from aws. Was wrongfully put on plan and then terminated. I took the shut up money they gave me. Reflecting back, I believe that was a grave mistake. I have lots of really good references internally at aws and many people that would vouch for me. I’m looking to come back in another org and outside of the city I was originally based at and know the hiring manager. I’ve heard that if you are terminated due to performance, you can never come back, but then I’ve heard that the hiring manager can appeal or me, as the candidate, can proactively let the hiring manager know of the situation and hope they understand and allow me to loop. Really could use some legit advise as I really do want to be back there and willing to fight tooth and nail if it is possible.
Legitimate answer but there is a bigger goal here. I was just in the wrong org with the wrong mgr which was unfortunate. The other org is the complete opposite of what I did and more enjoyable. Any hr people at amazon out there that can provide a concrete answer? Ie no matter what you do, you can’t be hired back... or, there is a way to get back but someone has to petition for you...?
Again, why Amazon only and not any other company? Ask yourself that. Not sure why are you keen on Amazon as in that company only CEO makes money. Lol
You said you took shut up money. Did you sign an agreement with it? If so, that may stipulate a time period where you can’t return.
Yea. That ppwk is lost somewhere.
Wow. So I guess Microsoft is really working out for you, if you are desperatly wanting to go back to the place that kicked you out.
Place no... person kicked me out
Come on, have some respect for yourself.
Was that to me?
Yeah, why are you so desperate to return to a place that showed you the door? I interviewed with Amazon a few years back and they decided to pass on me, today I am in a place where many people from AMZN are dreaming to be. When Amazon recruiters reach out to me now, I tell them to get the biggest Echo they can find and shove it up their orange asses. #RESPECT
Stockholm syndrome ?
You can dispute your re-hire eligibility status! I’m no longer at Amazon so I don’t have the info at my finger tips, but I’d start by asking your friends to reach out to their HRBP for the info OR reading through your old paperwork for more info.
Look.... I appreciate the feedback but I truly believe that aws has amazing technology, extremely smart people and a dominant force. I want to be part of it... all I’m asking is.... is it possible to get back or not. This maybe a hr person question
Fair point. I think that since you were let go from Amazon and are now at Microsoft, these would be 2 major red flags. I would advise you to get into Google or Facebook. Apply at Amazon from G or FB. That will strengthen your case a lot. Infact, Managers and HR will get horny seeing G or FB at your resume since all Amazon SWEs and HMs are G / FB rejects.
But I didn't even get a chance to go interview at g/fb because of the offer deadline. :(
Don’t come back this isn’t how amazon works. At amazon every manager needs someone to blame for their teams failures and you don’t want to start again with a reputation that puts you in the bottom bucket.
It will always stay on your record no matter what.

Why do you want to go back? There are plenty better and exciting companies you can join. Invest your time where the company would trust you equally, even if you join Amazon and know the hiring manager, there is no guarantee that they wont look down up on you based on your previous performance.
Don’t want to hijack this post but can you let me know some better companies in Seattle? I’m planning to move.
Facebook is huge there, Microsoft. Even Apple has a campus there as well
