Let recruiters know you're open

Has anyone used this feature of LinkedIn, where you explicitly make some recruiters with premium subscriptions know that you are looking for change. How effective is this feature? Has any recruiters at your company got to know you are looking ? ( LinkedIn says they can't guarantee 100% privacy)

If you’re a good asset it’s more leverage when your company finds out you’re interested in other companies

I don't think it's a good idea to arm twist your company that way. If they wanted to pay him/her more they would have already.

Yes I have used it and it is very useful. Recruiters know that you are looking and contact you via email or inmail. LinkedIn premium is useful such that it highlights your profile in recruiter searches.

Used it. Kept it on for a month Started to get a lot of LinkedIn messages and emails from recruiters. Privacy wasn't a concern for me unless my manager saw it. And I don't think my manager has a premium account on LinkedIn.

I use LI Recruiter fairly often. When sourcing for candidates it will show who’s open and who’s not. It saves me quite a bit of time because I reach out candidates who are “open” first.

Thanks. But I thought recruiters would give preference to "hard to get" not open candidates ...

It ultimately depends on the role. Certain roles I don’t even use LinkedIn because and will source using other creative ways. Awards, github, etc.

It's very effective. I wish I could limit it to actual employers though - I get a lot of 3rd party recruiters reaching out with nonsense

I don't work for one of the teams related to this feature, but I can tell you that the most difficult step in joining a company is getting noticed, so if you struggle in this area any little bit helps. In a similar vein, make sure you add links to projects, publications, blog posts and keep your skills up to date. When recruiters look for you these will be used in our search results and indexing.

Thanks . I have a Quick question. If we keep updating our resume on regular basis with minor changes, makes any difference? Does it bump up our profile in search results?

LinkedIn EngAdvice Apr 15, 2019

I'm not on that team either... and if I was, I couldn't tell you the exact algorithm we use. Intuition would indicate that random activity would not improve your chances.

It also doesn't hurt to tweak some very minor aspect of your profile about once a week.

I use that feature and find it extremely helpful. I am not actively looking ( just open to offers) and I get messages from recruiters on a daily basis.

I opened it up a while ago and get contacted at least weekly. Not everyone reads the details I put but it is nice to feel wanted!

Just be careful though - your manager’s recruiters will also see you’re open/active. And especially true if you yourself routinely hire or are a part of interviews loops - your name will ring a bell rather easily. Not that there is anything wrong with it - but I’ve had that info fed to me, so have your answer ready in case you’re confronted.
