How is it happening that the spectrum for l61/2 goes all the way from 2-9 YOE?

I got to know of a l61 hired at 9YOE
But then I know of 3YOE l62

Whats the trickery here?
Why would anyone with ~double digit YOE accept l61?
Is the spectrum this wide at senior l63-65 levels?
Is the spectrum this wide at other MAGAs?
What has been your level progression?

Personally: 5YOE. L62 lateral hire.
TC: in ₹ so it is 🥜 in front of $

If you're specifically talking about India, then your previous salary is a big factor in levelling you. Most industry folks 8-12 yoe are paid less and are happy with the 61/62 offer since it's way above what they make, but soon realise they were underlevelled after joining.
Folks coming in from top tier companies are able to negotiate better levels with much less yoe.

Haha! That ‘his’ is me 😂

And yes its all going funny.

I’v passed on an email to re-evaluate my offer wrt stocks (70k)

But I have this feeling that it has become an ego problem between me and recruiter now 😅

Levels are a function of both your YoE and your ability/opportunity to learn. Some people learn fast, some slow. Some people get to work on great projects, some don't. At higher levels, some are good at politics, some are not. The width of the spectrum will increase as you progress.

If someone has been maintaining the same legacy system for 9 years, why would they land above L61?
