How does leveling work at Google for new hires? During my interview this didn’t come up at all. I’d like to come in as an L6 which is realistic as I’m currently under leveled at MSFT (at least based on YOE). How are these decisions made and how do I influence them? Also, this is more about TC than level but level is obviously related. #google
L6 might be difficult more likely T5
Yoe does not a senior engineer with product experience make
🤣
For L6, i think you are talking about L67 or higher in MSFT. I am not sure though. I would think most people have their careers end up at L5/L6, but just my guess.
Levels.fyi has L6==65 or so.
So, basically you have to go to G in the first years of your career so you can have a chance to grow past L5. Otherwise it's not worth it since you can get better level and TC at other companies which have no problem hiring at L6 equivalent. Am I reading right ? Kinda sux.
You know the rules. TC or GTFO.
Do extra well on system design. That’s sets novice engineers apart for that lucky down level. Unfortunately you don’t have a preference handle on that decision as a candidate
