Levels? Upcoming AWS Interview

I’m in the Midwest, 12 YOE. I have an upcoming interview for Data Architect at AWS on the professional services side. I have never heard of “levels” until a friend shared Blind with me. Is there an ELI5 version of levels? Are all titles at FANG attached to a level? Are there hard salary ranges at each level? I’m curious if I can just ask the recruiter what level this position is at and that’s a question she’ll understand and be able to answer. Thanks for the help!

Levels are essentially your rung on the corporate ladder. Multiple levels can technically be associated with a title. Think “I got promoted but my title is still the same.” Salary wise, yes, there’s a range often called a band. Basically “if I’m a level 6 normal pay range is between $130-140k” (making that up). For example at Amazon an L6 can be a senior pm. At Microsoft a L63 and L64 are senior pm. Etc.

Amazon has comp ranged for each level and it is very hard to move out of them. For SDE: L5 (SDE2)is 180k-250k. L6 (senior, SDE3) is 280k-350k Requires VP approval to get more.

Sde3 upper range is higher than this.

Sr Data Architect is the title here. Will the recruiter know what “level” it is, if I ask? Are the levels regional or are there regional multipliers/adjustments?

Recruiter will know the level and will tell you. Senior data architect is likely L6. Levels bands varies widely from country to country. They do not vary largely within a country. IE: Bay area makes a little more then Seattle, but Toronto makes alot less then Seattle.
