Got into Google a year ago but hate the team and work for many reasons. Is everywhere in Google the same?
I'd like to understand if I should look elsewhere completely or it's just a team/org based problems and I can actually find a team that works for me within Google. Won't be giving too many details to have myself identified.
- Manager shies away from feedback, I instead receive it from skip level of teammates when things go wrong. Not sure if my manager is blatantly lying to me about my performance or going above and beyond to avoid giving accurate feedback.
- Been blocked for months about my project from other teams. Doesn't help when it's your very first project in the team along with lack of feedback.
- Lack of scrum for tracking progress and addressing blockers.
- Nobody seems to care about what they do, but try to get their project out the door.
- We need to create pages and pages of design documentation.
- Not being able to use industry standards but instead being forced to use homebrew tools. Many times I found myself looking through unmaintained documentations just to find that mplementation has been deprecated, and instead of doing that I should do something else.
The whole ordeal took a toll on my mental health big time. Surely I won't stay here but I wanted to see if it's the same in other teams.

With remote onboarding, you need to go the extra mile to talk to your teammates, XFN. Set up 1:1s, listen to their pain points, stories and learn how they get things done and get them moving..
