I'm considering moving to Amazon for a L6 senior research scientist position. What is the environment like? Are publications / patents encouraged? Are spontaneous projects encouraged or is it top down management? Is there a collaborative atmosphere

How can I find success dating in NYC
Pros: 1. Amazing work life balance 2. Low stress job 3. High pay ($250k+) 4. Scope for patents (but that’s just every tech role has in Amazon) 5. You will be respected Cons: 1. No real research (make data models using conventional python libraries) 2. No support for publications (you have to take permission to do it and can’t use amazon data, etc.) 4. You collaborate with SDEs as you will most likely report to a SDM (Most SDMs dont understand Research well and cause annoyance at times) Bottom Line: Take the money while this phase lasts, more so if you have a PhD. Also applied scientist do better research than research scientist. Once you’re in move internally. (I am a former research scientist).
Am L6 RS. Can confirm all of the above.
Considering a role as an applied scientist. What kinds of internal moves would you recommend for an AS once their “in”?
