What is the word on the street about Deloitte in general/also in San Diego? Worth it?
Deloitte is one of the big 4 for consulting. So great if you want to do consulting work! But beware, there are functionally 3 categories of SWE at consulting firms: 1. Consultants. Fly around, providing solutions to clients. IMO the only job at Deloitte worth getting. 2. Technical Experts. Have daily calls with the consultants. They work with the clients, get the problems, then you help solve them before giving them back. I've not heard good things about this. Is pretty much somebody constantly getting credit for/presenting your work and pay isn't great. 3. Solutions. Avoid like the plague. It's functionally contractor work with a fancy name attached. TLDR; if travel isn't 75-100% of the job at Deloitte and isn't senior management don't do it. (Although I'm not sure about this based on Northom?)
^ this.
Depends on the job. If SWE, don't bother. WLB not great, pay isn't either. If consultant, it's as prestigious as it gets after MBB, but comes with consulting hours (long). Word is Deloitte's been lowballing offers recently too, so keep a lookout for counters to negotiate with and don't expect killer job security if you do take it
Not sure if Cloud Architect falls under SWE or Consulting but that was the role I was looking at
Check travel requirement. If it's high, it's a consultant job. Though if you didn't already know this, you should do more research before applying
