What are some interesting teams for growth and impact? At team match phase, looking at Product SRE teams TC: 0
I would encourage you to find the best leadership chain you can. For sre that'd be Kevin krawezs orgs. Avoid product, it's the worst org by a wide margin.
Why do you think product at LinkedIn is so bad?
Just signed on as SRE Product lol.. I would also like more info on this.
The fact is that Kevin’s org has largest impact (infra/data) which is highly complex and supports the entire backend ecosystem. It also has many challenges to solve at scale. It will be stressful at some points, but it’s one of those things where you need to manage your time and set boundaries. Do not fear on-call, you learn the most being on call. I’ve noticed that there is no other place to learn the breadth of things you do by being in challenging and uncomfortable situations. As a result they also have one of the largest budgets. There is dev work but not uniform across SRE orgs. If you feel like you are unable to satisfy your coding aspirations, you can always get approval for horizontal initiatives and take part in cross team collab. Lot of options and mobility. TC: 430k
@LinkedIn I have an upcoming interview for SRE new grad, Can I DM?
@OP can you share ur interview experience? How was it? What are the resources you found good for sre prep ?
I would strongly advise you to consider being a dev instead of an sre if you can. You can always transition to sre later in your career. The job satisfaction in sre is also a lot lower than dev here at LinkedIn. Your oncall shifts in product sre are also crazy. Be expected to get paged 10+ times a week outside work hours and kiss your social life and sleep goodbye when you’re oncall. If you’re hellbent on joining then the high impact teams are cap-sre and voyager.
Thanks Do these teams do a considerable amount if dev work? Say >60% What average no if hours should expect to put in for impact?
some product sre spent 0 time on dev work. my teammate spent 100% of their time on some junk initiative this quoter. Saying if their TC is 300k, yeah LinkedIn is putting 75k in trash can this Q.
