Does anyone else get very tired of the generic, self serving LinkedIn requests from total fandoms? More than happy and willing to help others where I see potential, but badly written messages stating “I have a business analytics degree and am an expert in python, numpy, tableau” or “I would like to explore opportunities at your company” are a real turn off. It’d be nice if people would read your profile, ask about what you even do, or pick something else of interest from your profile to connect with you about. I don’t need to make friends with everyone, but despite what these people think this actually illustrates, what this shows is that they’re not even trying. For those who do this, or send a connection request with zero explanation or message: I will likely never respond. Why? This is likely how you interact with your cross functional partners and it isn’t a good strategy for success in or out of the workplace. You’re the person that only ever talks about yourself or reaches out if you need something. Nobody likes that person.
Yes, this is true and I get these messages alot even I work for a small startup. Sometimes I help them too. I understand that they only want to connect with me for a job or referral perspective but few times it turned out that they learned quite fast and started better communication. Sometimes we can actually educate people, it helps them a lot.
Can and willing to help some, but the number I get is astonishing and I don’t have the time to help everyone that does this. I would be committing my life to being a career coach.
Russian bots 🤖️🤣
I get a couple/few fan connection requests a week. I don't normally understand the point of this. Only one person (college student) has straight up asked for a phone call to get some inside info on what it is like to work here, and advice on applying, so I did
Would you like to connect? I would like to explore opportunities at your company
