Talked to a recruiter and they wanted me to choose if I want to interview for Senior or Staff position. Staff seems have a leading role working with other functions while Senior more focused on working within the team. And they have slightly different interview format. Would it be possible to apply for Staff and get hired for Senior? Wondering also if I should just apply for Senior then looked get promoted in a year or two just to higher my chances of getting accepted? Any other helpful tips as well? Thanks. YoE:12
Yes, is common to go for staff and then get down leveled to Sr if the interview didn't see staff level answers. You cannot do Sr interview and get staff. If you were amazing on the Sr interview you can do the staff interview but you must interview again with the staff loop.
What is expected on Staff vs Senior interviews? What skills/experience Staff is expected?
Thanks, then it seems like I should go for Staff.
Senior engineer at Li is the 2nd level. You’ll have coworkers who are 2 years out of college. Do you really want to be in that position with your YoE?
Wow. They get promoted to Senior that early? I guess not.
Even in 1 year. You do
Any tips on preparing for Staff Eng interview?
It’s pretty difficult to get staff nowadays internally, so it’s best to try to do it via the interview if you can. Also LinkedIn senior is indeed just one promotion up. But senior at LinkedIn is a crazy wide band. It goes from like 220k TC up to like 360k. It basically spans L4-L5 in other companies. It’s harder to get staff at LinkedIn than it is to get say E5 at Facebook.
Please take staff. Try for it. Undergraduate with 1 year of exp get senior here
12 yoe. Definitely try for staff. Internal staff promos are getting harder.

First time I hear that someone is considering low-balling themselves. Why would you want to lowball yourself? You lack confidence?
Yes. I'm bad at interviewing. Although I've gotten great reviews at all companies I've worked at I just suck at interviews.
