Got offer from both: LinkedIn: 360k TC + 50k sign-on Senior SWE Oracle: 335k TC + 35k sign-on Principal SWE Aside from differences in pay, which is a better career move ?
What is the TC breakdown? The LinkedIn TC is well within staff range.
Take the principle SWE from Oracle Infra and if Oracle Infra doesn't go anywhere in the next 1.5 years (likely the case) then there will be an exodus of talent out of there. At that point, your Principle SWE title will come in fruition as hundreds of Senior SWEs try to leave as well. As suggested above, LinkedIn titles are inflated. You should be offered Staff SWE at LinkedIn.
That's a great offer from LinkedIn for senior. What is the breakdown? YOE?
To be honest, not particularly interested in titles - as long as they pay me. Also, given MSFT stock is doing much better than ORCL stock, I see more upside in sticking around in a MSFT subsidiary. Not to mention oracle's core business is being encroached on while at the same time, they are not able to keep up in the cloud. I am on the other hand interested in work content and culture and interesting people/problems. Can folks from LinkedIn/ORCL, or who have worked in the afore mentioned groups, comment on that ?
This. Plus as a senior the expectation is not very high so you’ll have a very good ROI/WLB.
Agree - just curious to know the breakdown - I had a senior offer for 280k TC - 360k seems to be in the staff range.
LinkedIn is better offer as you can always move to another part of Microsoft. Microsoft seniors went and became Oracle senior, yes fact.
Damn I didn’t know LinkedIn senior swe can pay that much...Op did a very good negotiation!
Oracle oci dB group is basically a re hash of a subset of folks from the old dB team so you would end up dealing with a lot of old oracle engineers and managers . I’d be cautious of that . It’s unlikely that oci is going to go places and even beat gcp. There’s lot of title inflation in oci. I’d recommend stick to LinkedIn . It’s quiet likely Msft will do better than orcl( see last 2 years growth)
Thanks
DBaaS team has a lot of stupid devs and the env is toxic, stay away.
If you’ve 10+ yoe I wouldn’t join below staff. LinkedIn levels are pretty inflated and joining as senior after these many yoe is atrocious.
