Do I have to be super smart to be hired by LinkedIn? It’s one of the companies I have been longing to work for and was wondering what it takes to get a job. Lot of experience? Extreme talent? Area expertise?
Bar is high, but it's about the same as peer companies like Google, Facebook. Interviews for SWE roles are very similar as well: heavy on algorithms, coding, problem solving, system design, cultural fit.
Nope. The quality of eng can vary based on team / org. I interviewed and got offers from couple of startups before LI and LI was the easiest.
You need to be a part of nepotism. If you know a manager or above. You are hired irrespective of your interview.

I would say the bar for hiring is pretty high in general, but not specific to years of experience. We have lots of young engineers, right out of school. As long as LI can pay close to FB and G they can maintain their bar. But. It sure how long that will last.
