I recently interviewed at LinkedIn and I am pretty confident that I did well (obviously that doesnt matter and what matters is what the interviewers think about me). In case I do get an offer, I won’t be able to move right away due to personal reasons. I did notice that the offer would be valid for 1 year while reading a few posts out here. I am wondering if I should let them know after getting the numbers or right away regarding the delay in moving? if I do get the numbers, I can probably use it to negotiate other offers. Any input is highly appreciated. TC: 170k
Regardless... wait for a written offer then decide on next steps. The time could be part of your negotiation
Yea I just want to make sure I have the option to move to LinkedIn if I choose to within a year
Our offers are not valid for one year. Your interview results are though- so let’s say you move forward, get a team match and decline our offer... you passing the interview and moving to team match is valid for a year. Not the numbers and not the same team/project.
You can explain situation to recruiter and then negotiate. When do you plan to move?
Probably after 6 months
Valid for like 3 days for me
Why do this - interview now if you know you can’t start for 6 months? What’s the rationale? Seems like a waste of time for Linkedin. If manager gets wrong vibe from you - could cause trouble in future team marching
👆🏼this is very true. If you legit can’t start for 6 months don’t waste our/your time right now
I was open at that time to move to California. Now for various reasons I won’t be able to move. I really like the company and it’s vision so I want to work there some day. I might need 6 months to a year to move to California. That being said I want the numbers so that I can negotiate my offers with other companies this time around. Not trying to waste anyone’s time deliberately.
Linkedin offers are not valid for 1-year. You need to accept or decline, if you accept you can give a 6+ months start date, but they will probably do not accept. Only you kicked ass in the interview
I've hired people who couldn't start immediately, rejected people's counter offer on the start date because I needed them in seat asap, and even asked people if they would be willing to delay their start. It really depends on the situation. The key is for both sides to be transparent. Nobody likes avoidable surprises.
Thanks for letting me know. I really do have a genuine reason and I’m planning to let the hiring manager/ recruiter know about it once I do get an offer. I am trying hard to make this work from my end :/
