New masters grad. Role: SRE in LinkedIn and production engineer in facebook LinkedIn offer : 135/200k/30 Facebook offer : 125/150k/65 What would be the pro/con of choosing one against the other? Or are they pretty much the same in terms of comp, benefits, work style, promo Is this question even valid? Or does it really depend on which team you're going to
As a PE at FB, it's a lot of fun. Crazy flexibility, lot of room for growth
i know it has been so long. are you still around?
LinkedIn is more business minded. More professional. Alot of networking can be done on LinkedIn without having to deal with the unnecessary unprofessional social media parts. Facebook has a business part that you can create on its website and Facebook also has millions of people to market to. So idk. It all depends on your style of audience.
Was in the same boat as a swe and picked LI. I dont think one is better than the other - they are peer companies and people move around all the time. Just pick one you like better.
Facebook. Faster growth, more prestige. Shitty WLB but you are just out of school - so probably doesn't matter much.
Are you sure? I think growth happens faster at Li. I view li and fb as peers when it comes to prestige. Agree with wlb.
I'm sure growth to Level 5 is faster at FB than getting at FB, performance reviews are very heavily result-oriented. You are constantly forced to show results (unlike at LinkedIn) and therefore better positioned to have more impact and promotions. At linkedin, the review system is a bit more tolerant to people who coast or don't stretch themselves much. (My spouse is an engineering manager at LinkedIn. That's how I know about LinkedIn :))
Okay, prestige apart, you mentioned growth would be quicker at FB. Well, in FB, I'll be in a rotational program for the first year, where I'll be working with different teams to figure out what I like, I don't think that counts towards my performance or progress right? So it's a waste of a year whereas at LinkedIn that first year will be tracked for my perf and progress. Thoughts?
What??? Are you sure??? Bootcamp is 6-8 weeks and honestly a pro. Rotational swe/e don’t get the same as new grad offers I’m pretty sure....
Yes. I have the same question as @zfs above. Also, this early in career, I would join a company which will stretch me beyond my comfort zone. I feel FB does it better than LinkedIn (or Google for that matter). In the end, both are good choices. You can't go wrong.
200 RSU or 200k worth of stock?
200k rsu
*$200k worth of RSU. If you got 200k RSU you’d retire tomorrow lol.
