LinkedIn versus Microsoft for new grad?

I'm interested in joining LinkedIn as a new grad, but reading on Blind, it seems that their new grad TC is similar to Microsoft's - LinkedIn : 125k base, 175k stocks and 20k signing in Cali (from a 2019 post on blind) - Msft : 110k base, 150k stocks and 50k signing in Washington State (my current msft offer) Is there any hidden pros that I'm not aware of? Faster promo? Better refreshers? Thanks!

Slightly better reputation b/c people don’t realize it’s owned by Microsoft

How is that a better reputation?

How does the extra reputation translate irl? Is it worth an extra 10% of state tax?

Go to LinkedIn. Lot of politics in Microsoft.

If you care about comp Microsoft is not the place to be, your comp won't grow much. At a little over 4 yrs of exp and a senior at LinkedIn my comp is around 320k. Looking at levels.fyi to get the same comp you need to be L64 or L65, which really isn't feasible in 4 yrs. I should also be getting Staff in the next 6 months and my comp should be closer to 400k at that point. LinkedIn is easily the better choice for comp. But they said bay area is more expensive and you have no income tax in Washington. So it depends what you're looking for.

I'll add that refreshers at Microsoft are kinda crap which is why the comp doesn't grow that much.

Thanks! Mind if I ask how refreshers work at LinkedIn? I read that yearly stock refreshers are not guaranteed

I wouldn’t agree that LinkedIn is “miles ahead of Microsoft” for high performers, unless you’re strictly talking about comp. If you want TC, then LinkedIn. If you want a wide variety of opportunities across a wide variety of products, Microsoft. There’s probably more long-term career growth potential at Microsoft. I personally would probably go with LinkedIn simply because it’s in SF and the weather is a bit better. Keep in mind SF is much much more expensive than Seattle.

We have offices in cheaper areas than, Sunnyvale/Mountain View (HQ), NYC, and small ones in Omaha and Carpinteria

Would you mind elaborating on the long-term career growth at Microsoft? My org at Microsoft seems to be slow on career growth. 6-7 years to senior from new grad and 15 years to high principal are the norms. It seems LinkedIn allows for a much faster progression pace. 1-2 year to senior band according to Blind and 4-7 years to staff.

how did you get 150k stock for MS? i thought 120k was the max

Microsoft aodo OP Sep 18, 2019

Max stock for MS is whatever stock value is written on your Fb offer :P I've seen 200k+ Typically, 150k is the max without competing offer for returning interns. 175k is the max with competing offers. Anything above that will require CVP approval

ah so you are returning, i’m an ex intern and i got the 120. you have that counter offer yet?
