I got a verbal offer from LinkedIn but unfortunately, they down leveled me from Senior to SWE. The offer is actually not bad in terms of compensation (he said about 250k). What do you think I should do? I have a phd + 3 YOE (not much system design/scalability experience). Not being experienced enough in that area always bites me in the ass. No matter how much I study I can't cover the fact that I don't have system design industry experience. What do you think I should do? accept the offer? Or keep studying system design and applying? Maybe if I start my work at Linkedin I get more system design experience? If I could deal with the fact that other SWEs are young with probably no experience.
I am on the same boat, downlevel. But I think that was fair if you really do not have much design experience, if you are better than young SWE you will outrun them in the long run anyway. Personally if the offer is good I have no problem accepting it and fight for promotion and learn more on the way.
What's your YOE and degree?
Master with 5 YOE
You got the “usual” down level offer. This is common. They think you will work out at the higher level but want you to prove yourself. If you contribute at that next level within 6 months of joining, you will get on the promotion train (although that next step will likely take 18 months or longer). Negotiate the signing bonus or vacation time, etc. and don’t sweat the level...you are getting a really good salary as it is.
You'll be promoted in no time. In the meantime, enjoy sr swe pay and swe responsibility

Is it true many Indian couples are in sexless marriage?
3 years of phd != not working in the industry unless you consistently doing internship. Sorry mate. I think this is fair, right? Just work hard and you will be promoted. For reference I got downleveled with 4 years of experience and only making 150 base after promotion this year! 250k would be a milestone for me.
Did you have competing offers?
No. I learned my lesson.
