I’m new grad FSD and it seems to me Bloomberg is now crazily migrating to Linux from IBM machine, thus many teams big plan is simply Linux nigration, say, redesign the service thats Linux compatible. So is it a good choice to join such teams for new FSD? This certainly doesnt sound fancy as other buzzwords like big data or ML or cloud, but maybe benefitial in terms of emgineering training? say, to have better understanding of lower-level stuff and participate in service design from scratch. Would like to listen to experienced guys what teams are great for tech skills and career development.
Linux is cool!
I think it’s a good thing as long as it’s mostly rearchitecting/redesigning and not line-by-line porting. Being able to understand a legacy system and rearchitect it is a very valuable skill that’s needed in any software company; buzz words on the other hand are stupid and change every year anyway.
😂
Any advice?
tell the TLs you like working with legacy code. they will fight over you
