Want to have linux on a personal laptop Goal: to do some low level kernel hacking and some networking projects that need root 1: What would be a good laptop ( that i can buy from amazon ) 2: what linux distro would you suggest ? ( dont want to use dual boot with work laptop )
Thanks
Mint Linux is great for what you want.
Ubuntu
Windows 10 - it has Ubuntu and fedora shells 😁
Fuck no
thinkpad are very linux friendly ... and ubuntu or kali linux
Don't get just any laptop, check for hw compatibility or get something made for Linux, otherwise you run the risk of getting a laptop whose hw is only supported in Windows... I second the opinion that most Thinkpad T series are more Linux friendly than others.
Thanks
Laptop: most laptops are compatible this days, just google laptop model with linux. I recommend: IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad T series Ubuntu is the distro you want to use to learn and master. Kali Linux if you are going to sec/pen testing. If you want to understand Linux internals, try LFS or Gentoo stage 1. (This process is slow, if you are new with Linux highly recommended) https://amp.reddit.com/r/linuxadmin/comments/2s924h/how_did_you_get_your_start/cnnw1ma
Thanks
You don't need a linux laptop, you need a vm with linux, just install virtualbox
Lol at the answers!
Educate or GTFO
Seriously what do Red Hat do apart from repackaging free kernel from Linux foundation and put the age old skin for their corporate customers. Man I wasted 2 of my years for this bulky platform
