Long time Apple users. Did you ever enter into a Windows only environment?

I have been working on Apple MBP for last 10 years. Always worked with startups and small companies. Now I took up this job for good pay and location. And they use Windows 10. The machine feels so plasticy, cheap and the trackpad is just so noisy, hard and uneven. The keyboard is as good as a type writer. The OS has very few gestures. It does have a touch screen but since I am a developer I don’t touch the screen while writing code. The machine is terribly slow (core i7 16GB ram SSD) as compared to my 2013 MBP. The fan is on most of the times even though I’m doing nothing. There are 100s if services running and I don’t know what they are. So many software programs installed. I just miss the simplicity of my MBP. The company has a proprietary firewall software which is only installed on corporate laptop so I cannot VPN from my Mac. I find all this very annoying, demotivating and life sucking. Im sure I’m not the first Apple user who was forced to use Windows in the day job. A part of me wants to quit because I cannot tolerate the infrastructure given to me. Has anyone done that before leave a job because they forced a dell laptop and Windows OS? This is my second week and I hate everything and I’m kind of depressed and frustrated.

I am a windows user and I would feel very similar if I were forced to use a Mac at my job.

You won’t find the hardware to be cheap for sure

True, I would hate a slow windows machine more than a mac.

I want to hide in a safe place and do my coloring book. But I don’t want to go back to this Stone Age steam powered typewriter.

Problem is the AV/security/big brother crap. Now this is also being introduced to Macs and they also slow down to a crawl.

As a Mac user I share a similar sentiment for companies that don't allow a Mac option. I think it is high time companies started offering both options when you on-board. They did that to us and literally only 1 guy out of 12 opted for a Windows laptop. I just can't stand the trackpad on most Windows machines. Not to mention Mac is very close to Linux from a terminal standpoint which makes testing deployments and stuff easier for me.

Cheapness. They know that everyone will opt out of Windows. They will have to pay more. Today they buy this garbage plastic crap and bulk prices.

I've used both Mac and Windows. I think Macs are considered nicer because they only do premium hardware. Windows is hit or miss. I love it on a good device. But there's no shortage of complete plasticky crap out there. See if the company has other devices to offer? Alternatively maybe you can put W10 on a macbook with boot camp if you want to keep the apple hardware?
