Looking for Netflix mentor Backend SWE

Mar 2 6 Comments

Hi, I’m a pretty new engineer just out of masters. Have a bit less than a year of experience but am joining a big tech firm in a couple weeks as a senior SWE (equivalent to google L4).
My goal is to reach Netflix within a couple years and I was hoping to find a mentor to give me insights of how to both maximize my learning, optimize for getting to Netflix, and overall general life advice when it comes to wlb.

Based in the bay.

Thanks!

Netflix wants people with experience. A couple (which means 2) is very likely not going to cut it.

They have a very few internships available which might be a way in. It they’re certainly not easy to get.

Doing research I don’t really see many people getting hired there with less than 8 yoe. And those are rare indeed.

I believe it’s not so much even the coding ability. Their culture wants “fully formed adults”. To that end they want people who have had to deal with shit and learned how to navigate interpersonal relationships and take on responsibility and communicate. Those skills are learned by doing. You really can’t teach them.

But good luck. It by all means seems to be a great company.
