Almost 1 year of Sr Program Manager role in non-tech/operation at Amazon. 8 years of SDE experience. MBA from a reputed university. Want to move close to tech and hence thinking to switch to TPM role. Please ping me, if looking for TPM. I’m in Seattle. Would prefer not to relocate but may consider. Interested in both Amazon and non-Amazon.
I think you want PMT not TPM
I thought Product manager -Tech. But I’m told try TPM (Technical Program Manager)as it would be natural transition from Program manager (non-tech) and then move to Product manager -Tech, (specially when targeting internal job at Amazon). Irrespective of the advice, I want to stay in the solution space (TPM) and not problem space (product manager).
Tpm is technical project manager... At least in AWS. From what I've seen MBAs go PMT. Ive seen people basically come off the street with no PM experience and be a TPM
Your work experience, to me at least, sounds exactly what our team of PMTs are. Also, from what I understand, PMTs get paid alot more than TPM.
Aws pmt is pretty close to tech.
Why did you move to non-tech PM from SDE?
That was a bad move. Realizing, I’m getting too or completely away from technology, though I was promised other way. Can’t afford to spend time on something that I don’t like it and be happy every day.
