Background: MS in Mechanical Engineering +4YOE Engineer at Intel. Process engineer in the fab in LTD for 4 years. Initially looked for Process Engineer/core ME roles but Intel fab experience proved difficult to move to FAANG. Recently switched to GSM as Supply Chain Engineer last month.

Looking for advice to build long term transferable skills to make a career in Operations and Supply Chain. What are steps I can take or things to learn to have good career long term and eventually get a high TC job in FAANG? I would really appreciate if any of you experienced folks would be willing to mentor me. TIA!

Started on at apple with 0 supply chain experience. Be good at what you do and find an engineering spot at apple putting it to use in the supply chain context. From there you’ll learn the ins and outs

How are you liking it in SCM so far? I'm thinking of a similar switch from PE to SC. Not sure if it's the correct move.

Why do you say so? SCM makes it easier to switch to different companies, across industries. That's my major reasoning to switch. Also, PE at Intel is a very niche role - can't think of any strong transferrable skills. Only move possible is to equipment suppliers or other fabs in similar roles.

Yep agree. And a move from engineering to supply chain is something I regret to date. Seeing someone posting the same just makes me say a “hell no” to them.

Jobs in Big Tech are just like any other - landing one pretty much comes down to getting lucky during your interview.

Beyond Apple and Amazon, look to datacenter jobs for the big operators (Google, Facebook, Microsoft). Some supply chain stuff there.

FWIW, Big Tech doesn't have a ton of supply chain spots and you'll only earn a fraction of the SWE comps you see on Blind.

Why supply chain from engineering? What exactly in supply chain do you wanna do?
