I'll appreciate a referral for the position of senior data engineer of data scientist at a Bay Area big tech, assuming the following combination of skills and non-skills is relevant for the job: Yes: - Advanced SQL (I believe there are no truly hard SQL problems on Leetcode), familiar with MPP databases such as Snowflake or Vertica - Solid Java, Python, Ruby, JavaScript. Many yoe of using code for app development as well as processing large data streams. - 15+ yoe in tech, 7 yoe in relevant positions (data & analytics solutions architect/engineer) - Business/product sense and cross-functional communication. Maybe: - Statistics - I'm not using it every day but have a solid math background and a good statistical intuition - Machine learning - did some stuff at work a while ago but overall less than 1 yoe - Streaming - used to write scripts to pre-aggregate huge CSVs efficiently record-by-record but I have no hands-on experience with modern streaming tools. No: - No or minimal hands-on experience with many common tools such as Kafka, Flink, Airflow, dbt, etc. I was always able to learn a lot of new stuff pretty fast but I don't want to lie that I'm an expert. Tagging a few companies I was thinking about and happy to hear from others (Instacart, Lyft, AirBnB, Dropbox, Twitter, ...). Not looking for Amazon (referred for a different position less than a year ago) and Facebook (onsite in two weeks) #referral #dataengineer #dataanalytics #lyft #twitter #instacart #dropbox #apple
